The home of Hamed bin Muhammed el-Murjebi - Tippu Tip - the most famous and most feared Zanzibari trader of the 19th century, who built an ivory-and-slave empire deep into the Congo. The house is a private residence: admire the facade from the street and keep your voice down.

CARVED DOOR
One of the town's most photographed carved doors: heavy teak with brass studs and a carved chain border. Door lore says the chains carved around the frame of a trader's door counted the towns and families his caravans had passed through.
